Source of Ideas

The focus for the first project came from an idea for a utility that radar wanted himself. He was going to just sit down and write it when he realized it might make a good academic exercize for students of The MOST.

Lacking time to lead the effort, he mentioned it in a discussion among the mentors to see if they agreed it was worth pursuing later. Wolfgang Bachmann expressed a lot of enthusiasm both for the focus of the project and the idea of implementing it as a group learning exercize, and volunteered to lead it himself. This team started off strong, but lost momentum due to a number of factors. We are using the experience gained there to focus our subsequent group study efforts differently.

It is also probable, due to the pro-educational slant of most of our mentors, that future group study projects will concentrate on creating applications that are suitable for use in education in general, such as flash-cards, ESL (English as a Second Language), teacher's aids, etc. We like the idea of letting the students gain meaningful experience while we simultaneously provide meaningful apps to assist the one segment of our societies that never seems to have enough finacial backing. Other ideas will be looked at as well, however, so if yu have an idea for an exrcise, send it to radar.
