Site Credits

The MOST Web site is built and maintained by volunteers. If you'd like to help out, PLEASE do so. This page explicitly recognizes the people that have helped build the pages on the site and the tools that we used to build/operate it.

People

Note: I'm going to forget somebody here. It's inevitable. It's also unintentional. We've tried to get our contributors to help us remember who contributed to all the various aspects of The MOST, and generally they are a humble bunch. I've tried to reconstruct who did what, but doubtlessly i've left out some major contributor to the creation or maintenance of the site. If so, please let me know. As in all areas, those who contribute deserve recognition. It's ALL they get, so they might as well get IT! :-).

Additional note: At the time this page was finished', the "Contributors" section is still in work. We'll implement links for ALL the names once that section is completed.

Initial Site Creation

Many individuals have helped create and maintain this site. The original efforts to design the overall look and feel of the site were provided primarily by Jens Malmgren and Dave Smith (incorporating suggestions from the entire webbers team). Jens also provided the primary input in the design of the site Nav Aid and designed our first official logo. Farokh Irani provided critical technical support regarding establishing the web site itself (as well as the web space and ftp capabilities that we use for the site) and handled the final uploads.

Subsequent Updates

We've been through a total of 8 "evolutions" in the site over its approx 24 month lifespan, though none of them have strayed very far from the original look and feel. After the initial build, most of the webbers participated in each of the 4 subsequent updates, though at this point i can't remember who did what on any particular edit. Jens provided an automated technique to create the site file listing and also produced the image map for the original site map. Pris Sears provided us with the MOOSburg page (which has subsequently been removed), while Dave Smith tackled the Issues section (which has also been removed). Koryn Grant created the page on "copyrights", while James Berriman built the History section. Menu pages for every section were provided by radar pangaean (operating from Jens' design), and radar also provided most of the pages that describe our operating policies. Michael Edmondson has updated various pages, did a little scripting for a site edit using Frontier, and also provided our current animated logo.

We also had assistance from Ian Cabell, William Dimaculangan, Al Dul, Ross Hamilton, James Jetton, Randall Kurashige, Beth Macknik, Dennis McCormick-Kovacich, John Phelps, Marcus Wilson, and probably others who never responded to our previous requests for reminders.

Made With Macintosh

Well NO KIDDING. We are pretty much all Mac folks :-). We don't have any RULES about this, but pretty much everybody that is contributing to The MOST is primarily a user of some incarnation or other of Mac OS computers. And..... we LIKE it that way! So, since we're all Mac dudes and dudettes anyway, pretty much every piece of software that is used to build or edit our site is ALSO Mac OS based software. DUH!

That doesn't mean that we may not have some webbers doing work for our site using other platform computers, just that none of them have admitted to it :-). Some of our webbers are prety ornery, actually. I can envision a few of them staying up late at night and running SoftWindows just so they can say they built a Mac web site using Windows software.

The link above goes to a web site that encourages people to publicize the fact that they built their site using a Mac OS computer. It's an advocacy thing. In general we try to keep The MOST neutral in the platform-as-religion area, even where we ARE biased, so we might not normally link to an advocacy site. But... the fact is, this site IS "Made With a Mac" (actually, it's made on a BUNCH of Macs used by our members all over the globe). Since it's just a simple statement of fact, our editorial board will let this little bit of advocacy get by ;-)

Scripted With Frontier

This is only true of part of the site, but one of our webbers swears by this tool, so we'll see how its use evolves over time. Mike Edmondson used it successfully to automate a lot of repetitive work in updating a set of pages during Mass Edit #3.

Built With BBEdit

This is also only true of part of the site, but a number of the webbers - and developers - also swear by this tool.

Ground to Dust by Adobe PageMill

That's probably NOT their "catchy slogan" for pages that are created with their product, but i haven't visited their site yet to see if there's a logo for this. Anyway, i (radar) used PageMill for the three most recent mass edits and don't mean the above comment as a negative remark :-). Actually, it's a good product and improved MY productivity on this edit significantly.

Et Alia

Our webbers use a LOT of tools, and i haven't mentioned anything about the tools Farokh uses as our site administrator. I used WordPerfect to edit the pages before buying PageMill. Other webbers have edited pages in their email editor. We all use whatever works best for us.

Radar uses the excellent shareware utility "Anarchie" (shareware fee PAID) to upload the pages.

I'll list any other products here that other webbers believe should be credited. You know what you're using better than i do.
