About The MOST
The sum of our member's efforts gives The MOST.
A number of Mac enthusiasts with a common vision "found each other" on semper.fi, Carpe Diem, and the AIMED-talk mailing lists. This group of people all shared the common goal of creating a net based facility that would help those who were new to Mac programming to become proficient at it. All services provided by this organization would be available at no charge to anyone who wished to use them, and all labor done by anyone to support this org would be done strictly on a voluntary basis.
The services of the organization would include pointers to all OTHER net based resources (including those from Apple, appropriate tools vendors, and pertinent private web sites), but would ALSO contain a set of locally produced educational materials that would be suitable for either group or individual study by anyone trying to learn the MacOS on a limited budget. The site would also contain the source code for all materials produced by the organization, and all of this source code would be available for anyone's use, without restriction, in private and/or commercial development activities.
The early discussions of the founders of the organization led to the choice of the name "The MOST -The Mac OS Students and Teachers" for this organization. AIMED, the Association of Independent Macintosh Engineers and Developers, is providing The MOST with a range of donated net services. The MOST and AIMED have similar goals and share some key personnel, but are distinct groups which focus on different aspects of providing support to the Mac Development community.
The rules of etiquette which govern interactions between participants should be read by all who plan to participate in The MOST's programs.
We are always looking for additional volunteers to help run our activities. Those who wish to help out should also read the "how to help" section of the FAQ.
Jens Malmgren pointed out that (according to "The Peaceful Warrior", by Dan Millman) there are three different personality types:
The MOST is looking for other interested individuals of type 1 to assist in making our vision become a reality.
radar pangaean, who is usually of personality type 1 (but sometimes finds himself of type 3), has volunteered to lead this effort (including covering any operating expenses).
