Jim Perry

Personal/Contact Information

Bio Paragraph:

I am a Ph.D. student in electrical engineering. My research focus and interest has been in the area of numerical methods. I have read throught alot of Macintosh toolbox programming books, most of which focused on using C as the primary language. I've also read most of the Jim Treadeau Power Plant programming book (suppied with CW documentation) and worked throught some of the examples. This is where I began to see the raw power of the Power Plant framework. I know C and C++ fairly well, have used both for numerical anaylsis -- but mostly for console apps with ANSI C/C++. I've recently started looking at OpenGL (the Mesa libraries) and C/C++/Java applied to scientific visualization in 3D.

From what I've read and applied from the Power Plant programming book, it looks as if Jim Treadeau's approach would be essential in learning a) the macintosh toolbox, b) object oriented programming, and c) the very powerful tools supplied by Metrowerks, to name a few. I could use a refresher in macintosh toolbox programming, and one can never really have enough practice in oop. My goal would be to ultimately become proficient in the Power Plant framework, the object oriented approach to application development and perhaps use these tools to develop stand alone scientific/numerical applications with 3D visualization capabilities.
