The MOST provides two lists for general info sharing: MOST-Announce and MOST-General. All members of The MOST are asked to subscribe to MOST-Announce. Traffic on that list is minimal and staying subscribed will ensure that you are informed of new MOST-related developments.
| Postings go to: | N/A - One way list |
| Commands go to: | MOST-Announce-request@themost.org |
MOST-Announce is intended as a one way facility to allow the organizers and administrative care-takers of The MOST's activities to send information to the membership. There will be NO discussions on this list, and we will try to keep traffic to a minimum. In general, only radar pangaean and Farokh Irani will be sending postings to this list.

| Commands go to: | MOST-General-request@themost.org |
MOST-General is the open ended discussion list for all participants in any of the MOST's programs. This list is intended as a catch-all for any discussions that do not fit into the other, more focussed lists that are ALSO used by The MOST.
MOST-General is pretty open ended, and as long as it doesn't get ridiculous (which is CLEARLY a subjective, unmeasurable statement) i'm NOT going to suggest squelching ANY conversations that are held there. Outright rudeness or postings that belong in other forums will NOT be seen this way, but it IS important to the functioning of The MOST that our members get to 'know each other' (beyond just our technical skills) since that facilitates good working relationships. With this is mind we will have a lenient policy about "off-topic", humorous, and/or purely social exchanges in MOST-General. Now that we have the other lists in place NO official business is conducted there anyway, although issues may well ORIGINATE there. If a discussion raised there DOES need everyone's attention, i'll post the relevant parts to the appropriate OTHER list for that topic. For people who don't want to be bothered with ANY frivolous posts, only subscribe to MOST-Announce and you WILL be informed of anything substantive that is happening. Think of MOST-General as The MOST's break room, where the members chat about whatever is on their mind, MOST-related or NOT.
One of the primary purposes of The MOST is to provide direct mentoring assistance to neophyte MacOS programmers. Although some private email exchanges do occur, most of the mentoring that is provided is done on one of the technical mailing lists.
When a MOST mailing list is directly associated with a specific course, questions to that list should be limited to the materials that are directly associated with that course.
| Postings go to: | MOST-C@themost.org |
| Commands go to: | MOST-C-request@themost.org |
This list is an experiment. Its purpose is to provide a place for students to ask (MacOS/C language)-related technical questions and to support the "Essence of C" course. The up side of this list is that all C language related technical questions (unless specific to a non-MacOS platform) are acceptable. The DOWN side of this list is that the questions may not get an answer.
The mentors of The MOST have a range of skills relating to the use of C in the MacOS, but we never claimed to know everything. Questions posted to this list will be answered at the convenience (and knowledge) of those who happen to be subscribed to the list when they are posted. No guarantees, but at least you now have someplace to go to ask for help with YOUR MacOS C language coding project. We may not know the answer, but we will give the question an honest look and answer when we DO know. Who knows, maybe we'll get lucky and get some MacOS C language experts competing to see who can provide the best answers on this list :-).
| Postings go to: | MOST-Symantec-Dev@themost.org |
| Commands go to: | MOST-Symantec-Dev-request@themost.org |
MOST-Symantec-Dev is the discussion list for those who develop programs using Symantec's C/C++ language development environment and/or the TCL framework for MacOS computers.
| Postings go to: | MOST-MacOS-Core@themost.org |
| Commands go to: | MOST-MacOS-Core-request@themost.org |
MOST-MacOS-Core is the discussion list for all those who are participating in the MacOS-Core Course. This list will be used for open-ended discussions of ANY issues that relate directly OR indirectly to the focus of the this class. It will also be used by the mentors and the class administrator to communicate general information about the curriculum of the class and by the students to 'debate' proper solutions to each exercise.
All postings to this list by any student should relate directly to a lesson in the course materials. The student should read the entire chapter before asking the question on the list, and include the chapter number in the subject of the question when posting. Mentors and course administrators are not bound by this convention, as they sometimes need to make general announcements which do not relate directly to a specific lesson to the course participants.
| Postings go to: | MOST-Dev-Projects@themost.org |
| Commands go to: | MOST-Dev-Projects-request@themost.org |
MOST-Dev-Projects is the discussion list for the particpants in any of the MOST's group development projects. While a project team is active, discussion of any aspect of participation in the project is appropriate for this list, icluding both technical and administrative matters.
Each project team will have a short name (e.g. MPPB, dbRW) assigned to their project. This name MUST be included in the subject line of all emails sent to the list so that each project team can filter out any mail that doesn't interest them. Failing to include a current project identifier in the subject line of any posting to this list will be considered a breach of etiquette.
| Postings go to: | MOST-Misc-Help@themost.org |
| Commands go to: | MOST-Misc-Help-request@themost.org |
This list is an experiment. Its purpose is to provide a place for students to ask MacOS-related technical questions that do NOT relate directly to any of the existing MOST courses. The up side of this list is that all MacOS related technical questions are acceptable. The DOWN side of this list is that the questions may not get an answer. In general, posting to an appropriate newsgroup is probably a better way to get assistance with ad hoc questions than posting to this list.
The mentors of The MOST have a range of skills relating to The MacOS, but we never claimed to know everything. Questions posted to this list will be answered at the convenience (and knowledge) of those who happen to be subscribed to the list when they are posted. No guarantees, but at least you now have someplace to go to ask for help with YOUR MacOS coding project. We may not know the answer, but we will give the question an honest look and answer when we DO know. Who knows, maybe we'll get lucky and get some MacOS experts competing to see who can provide the best answers on this list :-).
The MOST exists primarily via the internet. The people who manage The MOST use email and MOST mailing lists to conduct 99.9% of the communications needed to create materials, provide services, and maintain this web site.
