These pages serve as the instruction manual for the use of our lists. If the answer to your question about our lists isn't somewhere in the "Mail Lists" subsection of the site, then ask me directly and it will be added to help the NEXT person. Please look the entire section over before asking, however, as most of the standard questions about the use of our lists can be answered somewhere on these pages.
Much of the business of The MOST is conducted via focussed mailing lists. We use lists for class discussions, announcing new developments, general technical discussions, and to help those of us who operate the various aspects of The MOST to discuss pertinent issues.
All mailing lists used by the MOST are named starting with "MOST-", followed by a brief string to identify the focus of the list. Some example names are "MOST-C", "MOST-Webbers", "MOST-Misc-Help", and "MOST-MacOS-Core". Please be sure to specify which mailing list you are having trouble with when asking for assistance.
All members of The MOST are required to subscribe to MOST-Announce to ensure that they stay current with our activities. Subscribing to any of the other lists is a personal choice that is based on YOUR specific reasons for associating with The MOST.
When you subscribe to any of our lists, you will receive the "MOST List FAQ". The FAQ provides minimal information about our lists and points you back to this section of the website for the latest information about how to interact with our lists.

"Posting" to a list means that you are sending an email that will be delivered to all subscribers of the list. Only those who are subscribed to a list may post to it. If you ARE subscribed to a list, posting to the list is accomplished by sending an email to it.
The MOST's mailing lists are currently hosted on the "themost.org" domain. The full email address to use for any of our lists is therefore list-name@themost.org.
Some example addresses to post to a few of our lists:
Not TOO tough yet :-).
Before posting to one of our lists, please read the etiquette page and the specific criteria for posting to that list.
One more thing. One of our lists, MOST-Announce, is a one way list (which means that you can receive email from it but you can't post to it). Everyone who is a member of The MOST in any capacity is SUPPOSED to be subscribed to this list, but only the list mothers can post to it.

The MOST is happy to sponsor any lists which meet the following criteria:
If you would like to suggest the creation of a new list, please send email to radar explaining your request. Farokh Irani hosts and performs our list maintenance activities and he retains final approval on the creation of any lists. Special consideration will be given to providing support to anyone who has:
created course materials for a subject which relates directly to Mac OS development
makes the course materials available freely to the public
would like a list to help

All of The MOST's mailing lists are hosted on Farokh Irani's list server. Farokh provides this service to The MOST as part of his larger commitment to providing AIMED with list services. Farokh is currently running ListSTAR from StarNine and he handles directly any technical problems that arise with the lists. While Farokh responds politely and quickly to any email that you may send directly to him, we try to buffer his burden in supporting us as much as possible.
The MOST's local List Mother is the MOST-ubiquitous radar pangaean. Although he knows little/nothing about ListSTAR, having seen Farokh adress the same questions repeatedly he now knows the solutions to a lot of the problems that people encounter. Please use radar as your first line of communication to get a problem associated with the mailing list corrected or to ask a question about the use of the lists (unless some instruction on this web site for a specific task explicitly tells you to communicate with someone else). Send radar email at radar@SMT-Inc.com.
