MacOS Core Programming Course
Materials

The course materials list

  1. Either

    or

  2. Homework Exercizes
  3. Questions and Answers
  4. Self Tests

The book and its associated demonstration programs were produced by K.J. Bricknell independently of The MOST and provide all materials needed for independent, self study of MacOS based programming. The remaining materials described above (2 through 4) are not currently available except in isloated cases for a very few lessons. A number of volunteers have committed to providing additional matterials for these areas (including myself), but so far The MOST hasn't done much to augment K.J.'s text and example programs. Maybe we're just not all that motivated to try to enhance something that stands just fine as it is?

The books and their associated demo programs

Since K.J.'s materials are actually housed at the MacTech web site, it's pointless to duplicate the information that is presented there about how to obtain the various documents and the formats currently available for each of them. Please remember that the MacTech web site doesn't link back to here, so if your browser doesn't provide "Back" functions, please set a bookmark to this spot before going to download the selected book and its associated demo programs.

It is possible to take the course completely online if you are taking the "C language" option. K.J. has a complete HTML version of the text for that language's version available from the Macintosh C WWW home page. You can also find instructions there for how to download either set (C or Pascal) of the documentation in PDF or Microsoft Word format.

Homework Exercizes

We hope to provide Homework Exercizes for each lesson to allow students to experiment with variations on the coding exercizes that are provided with the lessons. The decision to provide this as part of the course materials came from feedback received in a poll that was conducted by The MOST after the pilot class had been in session for a few months. The author of the primary materials on which this course is based (K.J. Bricknell) provided the few exercizes that we currently have available during the pilot class. Other mentors are being lined up to provide additional homework exercizes for the lessons that are not currently supported, but no significant progress has been made on this.

Questions and Answers

During the pilot class, students sent their questions on the course materials to the mailing list for discussion and resolution. K.J incorporated the answers to these questions in the most recent update of his materials. Our discussion list for this course has been mostly silent since K.J. and Koryn released the updated version of "Mac C" and debuted "Mac Pascal". IF we ever get any questions again :-) we'll record them on the web site to help subsequent students.

Self-Tests

We will provide self-tests for each lesson to allow students to gauge their progress through the lessons. The decision to provide this as part of the course materials came from feedback received in a poll that was conducted by The MOST after the pilot class had been in session for a few months. We are leaving a place here to identify that this component should be produced. No format has been decided for these tests yet. Nobody seems to have time for this aspect of the materials. :-)
